Spring is Here! - April 6, 2012

Hooray! I love spring!

I'm enjoying the change of season and making lots of plans to travel and tour later in the year...

Among scattered other things:

I'll be playing several winery shows solo in lovely Napa this summer!

and

I'll be doing a solo tour in Europe this fall.

Check back for details!

In the meantime, my band Super Natural will be playing Thursday, April 19 at the Blue Macaw in San Francisco! Hope to see you there!

Fall/Winter 2011 - November 8, 2011

Winter excitement reigns!

Super Natural is getting ready to go in to the studio and make our first demo recording! We've also got several bay area shows coming up (see calendar) and then we'll be off on tour to southern california in March 2012 with the fabulous Olivia Mancini!! check back for details....

By Golly its Summer - July 4, 2011

and what a summer it is all ready.....

my NEW RECORDINGS are out...A digital release--pay what you want digital download from San Francisco's Light Rail Records. A bunch of my pals play on it--My darling husband and drummer extraordinaire, Josh Bevelacqua--the fabulous Nicolas Dobbratz (now on tour with Of Montreal--yes, rock star in the house) on keyboards. Super snazzy funky bass by the illustrious Jerome Steegmans. the dulcet tones of ms. marina lazzara singing back ups (along with nicolas and josh). AND some really cool guitar work by my good friend mr. j lee. My good friend & lifelong collaborator, Elton Ridge, engineered, mixed & produced it at the brand new, state of the art, Light Rail Studios in SF. At some point, I hope to put this out on vinyl, so you can really appreaciate the lovely original artwork done by my amazingly talented friend, Andrea Savar. You can still download the lovely jpeg if you like, and enjoy it on your screen....

Listen to it, download it, buy it. That all happens here

Also, you can hear one of the songs on my MUSIC page on this website.

Meanwhile, I have some really exciting shows coming up with my new band, SUPER NATURAL, which is me on guitar and singing, Josh Bevelacqua (The Aerosols, Thingers, Chantigs, Fantasy) on drums and Danny Lovefinger (Kung Fu USA, Static Faction, The Burners) on bass. We were recently named SF's most adorable urban folk rock band. We'll be playing locally at the Starry Plough on July 24 with super-star MOOMAW (always an awesome show) and FORT KING who will both be in town from LA. That one is a Sunday Matinee show--starts at 3pm--we are on FIRST. Don't be late! They have food and beer and wine...and its all ages...

Then, we jump in the car and hit the road to the June Lake Loop Mountain Music Festival near Yosemite, where we are to play July 29. We are going to be playing on a bill with one of my favorite people, Bonnie Tamblyn, up on June Mountain. Show tickets come with a lift ticket! yeow...i'm kind of scared of heights and don't normally like "lifts"--but for this I will make an exception...I am also going to be mc-ing "Indie Night" there--Emily Wells from New York is headlining and its sure to be a great show.

So, maybe I'll see you around?

Winter to Spring 2011 - March 7, 2011

It's a busy year already. I've taken a winter break from my solo shows to rock.

I love playing my solo stuff but sometimes i need to sweat & bands are way more fun than a gym membership. Toward this end, I've got exciting rock shows coming up in Spring/Summer with my new band "SUPER NATURAL", a joint production of myself (guitar, vocals), Josh Bevelacqua (drums, vocals), Dan Miskulin (bass) and Marina Lazzara (vocals, tamborine). We've only had one show and we've already been crowned "SF's most adorable urban folk rock band". Please come to our next SF show April 2 at Light Rail Studios.

Meanwhile, I've been having a lovely time sitting in on bass with one of my favorite SF bands, "THE RABBLES". We've got Spring/Summer shows coming up too. I have dusted off and reunited with my Rickenbacker for this--it is bliss.

Also....I'm working on finishing up my latest solo recordings, which will be a 7" vinyl single. Featuring the musical accompaniments from many of my longtime friends/collaborators: Josh Bevelacqua (drums/vocals), Nicolas Dobbratz (keys, vocals), Jerome Steegmans (bass), Marina Lazzara (vocals), J. Lee (guitar). Produced by Elton and Light Rail Studios in SF. Wonderful artwork already done from the amazing Andrea Savar. Summer release planned....stay tuned.

And finally, I'll be kicking off touring for my solo record with a short stint in Spain during late May/early June. I'll be duetting with my husband the vastly talented Josh Bevelacqua and we'll be playing with my good friend and cohort from New York, Olivia Mancini.

I want to visit YOU!! Check the calendar for up to date show listings! Sign up on the mailing list for updates about tour schedule!

Fall 2010 Happenings - October 19, 2010

Many exciting things on the horizon.

Getting ready to be on tour for awhile. First up to the Pacific Northwest, then a home town SF show, then out to the east coast. My good friend and partner in crime Michele Kappel-Stone designed such an excellent and inspiring poster I’m bursting at the seams to get back out on the road. I’ll be doing solo-electric for the most part, and the tour looks like this (please check the calendar for venues/times, etc. & pix for a glimpse of Michele's fab poster):

11/17 Portland, OR (acoustic)
11/18 Seattle, WA
11/19 Bellingham, WA
11/20 Portland, OR (electric)
11/21 Ashland, OR
11/26 San Francisco, CA
12/2 Brooklyn, NY
12/3 Baltimore, MD
12/4 Washington, DC
12/5 Richmond, VA
12/6 Charlotte, NC
12/7 Johnson City, TN
12/8 Charlottesville, VA
12/9 Durham, NC

Also, really trying to finish up my recording, which will eventually consist of a vinyl single, full length digital album/CD, small book of poetry/song lyrics. Looking for money—got any?

And finally, I’m helping start a new non-profit foundation focused on the development of artist community, through non-traditional arts education, funding, space and events. Its called the ART BEAT FOUNDATION and we have offices in SF and New York---we put on events in places you wouldn’t normally find them, award artist grants so that artists can have the freedom to create art for art’s sake, do workshops for learners of all ages and offer various artistic resources to the independent, emerging artists and musicians of SF and NY (and beyond). We have an amazing group of women as our board: China Tamblyn (visual artist, Kirby Grips, Light Rail Studios);,Jennifer Shagawat (Shell Shag, Starcleaners Records), Michele Kappel-Stone (Tippy Canoe, Kirby Grips, Late Bloomers Works); Ruby Steinbrecher, Esq.; Marina Lazzara (Rabbles, Plastic Ocean Magazine) Kitty Faria (Kitty’s, KALX) and Jenny Hynes (visual artist). All incredibly accomplished and super fun to hang out with. We’ll be having our first event at Kitty’s bar in Emeryville December 17—there will be arts, crafts, music, food and fun. Mark your calendar and check back for details.

If I don’t update for awhile and you happen to be reading this in like a month, I hope the above explains why.

hey are you on my list yet? - October 5, 2010

I hope you are. Its very easy. Merely look to your upper right now & follow the directions.

I've got a U.S. coast to coast tour coming up in november and december (unfortunately i'll be flying across the middle of the country on a broom, so no shows there this time around). I want to make sure you can come to my show if i'm in your town. Not EVERYONE is on Facebook, eh?!

AND

I'm working on a very exciting new work (to me at least!), encompassing vinyl, digital and the written/spoken word. Cryptic, huh? I want to tell you about it more when its done next spring.

and, also

I promise i won't spam you. It's hard enough for me to just keep my calendar updated--frequent emails are not in my reality. I just want to keep us all in the loop for tours & art.

Deal?

Write, Record, Tour....Repeat - February 2, 2010

I've been in the in the studio at Rodent Records recording new songs for a late spring release. That's what I've been telling people anyway, really its just to stay out of the torrential rain the Bay Area's been having lately. I've been joined this time around by a fine crew of friends and musicians, including Nicolas Dobbratz (keys), Josh Bevelacqua (drums), Jerome Steegmans (bass), Marina Lazzara (vox) and J. Lee (lead guitar). My long time friend/producer/ally Elton Ridge is leading the charge engineering and producing. My spiritual advisor Hans Dobbratz has also been frequently along for the ride, offering me secret insights that I know will make this record **truly** great. He's also been engineering with Elton...

Meanwhile, I am anxiously looking ahead to the release of several groups of recordings I've been working on the past three years or so-- some of which feature Billy Talbot (from Neil Young & Crazy Horse) on bass. They'll be coming out digitally (iTunes, etc) on the fine Bay Area based label, Jackpine Social Club, along with a new video from the title track "Pretty Pictures". All is due out later this month, stay tuned for details.

Getting ready for lots of touring in 2010. Upcoming Tours: Pacific North West US (Seattle, Portland, Bellingham, Port Townsend, Tacoma) February 4-9, 2010 Berlin, Germany March 5-6, 2010 East Coast US (New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Asheville, Chapel Hill) April 27-May 5, 2010 European Tour 2010 (Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Netherlands) May 18-June 18, 2010. Check the calendar for specific dates!
